With a passion for the little moments that exist in the shadow of the big ones, Jess is fascinated with the nuance of what it means to be human. Questioning social constructs and the factors that shape an identity, her curiosity feeds into her work, often resulting in an understated interrogation of human behaviour.

As co-founder of Fight or Flight Productions, Jess has staged countless productions since 2012, including co-writing and directing Standing Ovation Nominated Don't Forget My Face in 2021.

Jess was an Associate Artist of The Lion and Unicorn Theatre from 2019 - 2024, and Associate Director for Proforça Theatre Company where she co-directed Standing Ovation Nominated productions AAAAA and At Last, and directed OffComm commended Feel More. Other credits include the debut production of Katie Duncan's Refuge and OnComm commended Love/Ruin for The Space Theatre, and Diversifications at Old Red Lion Theatre.

"Jess Barton is one of the most exciting directors in theatre. A master at creating work that is subtle, intricate and intimate. Jess's work is a celebration of connections, compassion, and humanity, capable of creating more impactful work through her collaboration with performers and interpreting scripts than any high budget, West End production.

From the first rehearsal to the final curtain, Jess creates such joy, warmth and support in her ensembles that she enables all involved to feel safe in exploring boundaries and vulnerabilities and unlocks dynamic, magnetic performances with her direction. As a writer, Jess is articulate, intelligent and observant with healthy doses of humour and insight crafting rich, fully drawn characters that are a joy for actors to explore.

A brilliant, beautiful human creating brilliant, beautiful work."
